Pax Christi Chorale is a vital and ambitious 100-voice community choir that attracts a diverse base of passionate singers from across the GTA. We value partnerships and connections to enhance our knowledge, expand our reach, and strengthen relationships within and outside the choral community. Our overarching aim is to experience the deep joys of choral singing, and to communicate that joy to our audience.

Toronto conductor, composer and educator Stephanie Martin was Pax Christi Chorale’s Artistic Director from 1996 to 2017. She was succeeded in the position by David Bowser until the summer of 2021, when Dr. Elaine Choi was appointed Interim Conductor. Elaine assumed the position of Artistic Director of Pax Christi Chorale in July 2022.

Pax Christi Chorale welcomes choristers from all backgrounds and walks of life. Our singers range from young adults to seniors, with many choristers having sung with Pax Christi Chorale for 10 years or more. Five professional choral leads provide vocal leadership within each section and assist with voice coaching and rehearsal sectionals.

We encourage the development of a cohesive choral culture; a culture in which all singers are invited to contribute and encouraged to improve their musicianship in an atmosphere of respect and professionalism.

For many years, Pax Christi Chorale’s core programming focused on the grand masterworks of the western canon. More recently, we have been purposeful in expanding our vision to include artistic projects and collaborators beyond the masterworks of the British and European choral canon. In addition to the selection and presentation of repertoire with historical and artistic value, we consider every performance as an opportunity to share stories on themes as relevant today as they were when the works were written.
